I rarely, if ever, post anything about marketing on Write Right. I may provide marketing strategy and content creation services to clients—and I have fun with both—but I don’t often write about the first on this site. I occasionally write about the second, insofar as it relates to the writing life in general. I usually avoid both.
Why? They don’t align with the blog’s purpose. The blog is a place to write about my loves, so I write about writing. I write about faith and what it means to be a believer who’s also a creative and a creative professional. I write about entrepreneurship and what it’s like to be a business owner who wants to glorify God with her work.
I muck about, too, which is to say I play with form. I know the blogging rules, but I don’t follow them here—at least not very often. The blog on Write Right is my playground. I explore language and rhythm and all the things that undergird and feed my writing.
I also draw because art is as much a part of me as writing is. It’s on this site that the two have come back together after a long, long separation. I look at my work when I was seven and see a writer and illustrator. I somehow forgot about her as I grew up, but she’s back.
That’s the way I like it. I’ve found my purpose, and it isn’t blogging. It’s giving glory to God with my writing and art. Because of that, the work never gets old. Every day there’s something new to discover, something new to plan, something new to rest in and do.
What’s the purpose for your blog? Let me know if I can help you figure it out.
