A few years ago, I read an article about how writers and artists needed an emergency hope kit. They needed to remember their successes and the people who encouraged them. I loved the idea but found that an element was missing: the kit itself.
Thus began the journey toward creating one. It would be a journal with what can only be called a dash of “Write Right.” It would contain instructions designed to help writers and artists find hope when their own seemed lost or misplaced. It would encourage through quotes and Bible verses. It would contain a number of blank pages (almost 140 to be precise) waiting for people’s dreams, fears, tears, prayers, and ideas. It would even feature Write Right and other illustrations, including some sailboats, sparrows, and paper airplanes.
Why create a kit? Because I have a heart for writers and artists. I want to encourage them to grow in their art and faith. I want them to know they aren’t alone when they’re discouraged and feel as though the bottom is slipping out. I want to help them find a little light when everything, everything seems impossibly and overwhelmingly dark.

Maybe the journal was too “Write Right.” Maybe the rewards weren’t good enough. Maybe there wasn’t a market for an Emergency Hope Kit. […]
