Some of my recent work has me feeling like a spinning top. Wind up. Release. Bump and clatter against floor. The top wobbles slightly, holds its center. It spins, spins, spins, whirling out new content at every turn.

Book Review: Hey, Whipple, Squeeze This
To find Luke Sullivan’s Hey, Whipple, Squeeze This: The Classic Guide to Creating Great Ads alongside my copies of Richard Hugo’s The Traveling Town, Annie Dillard’s The Writing Life, Dean Young’s The Art of Recklessness: Poetry as Assertive Force and Contradiction, and a few notable others is a testament to how good I think Sullivan’s book is. I know it’s a biased statement, but I don’t know what else to say. I like his book. I would read it again and again, and I intend to do so.
Changes at Write Right: A Good Pen is Hard to Find
Last week, I mentioned some changes were going to be made at Write Right. They were implemented over the weekend and are attested to by the new header and updated “Work with Me” page and drop-down menu. Both things have been done in response to some self-reflection and a desire for 2013 to be different from and bigger than 2012.

Changes at Write Right: An Introduction
The new year tends to be the time when people make resolutions and changes. I’ve never been one for making resolutions – I view them as empty promises – so the changes I’ll be implementing at Write Right actually have their start in November. I’ve delayed announcing the changes because of the holidays and some final details.
