“We all worship something. Every day we wake up and choose to give praise, adoration, and attention to the thing we care most about. It’s what we’re designed to do.” — Pure Worship Conference 2016
With this hand lettering exercise, I focused on how worship engages the whole being: mind, heart, spirit, and body. Worship, of God or any other thing, always captures my attention and affection. I give myself over to it. When the “it” isn’t God, I get into trouble. I worry, obsess, try to take control.
Because of that, I need regular reminders to worship God. I find them in spending time with God, being attentive to his creation, and joining with other believers on Sunday and throughout the week. Through them–their words and voices lifted in song–I remember who God is and who I am in relation to him. My mind and heart engage with him, and my hands prepare to do the work he’s entrusted to me.
