The command, “You shall not murder,” is like the other commands in that it deals with the heart. It is not one to glibly pass by; rather, it’s one to consider and reflect upon. It asks me about how I view other people and act toward them. The commandment becomes a question of identity. Do I believe God has created people in his own image? Do I treat them as his image bearers?
